International Diploma Animal Feed
Introduction
The supply of good quality compound feeds is vital for progress in livestock production.

Your final destination
As a result of the training the participant is able to:
· Appreciate the relevance of local livestock farmers' knowledge, experience and practices and create awareness of sustainable production concepts and methods;
· Identify, recognise and analyse opportunities and problems, taking into account constraints and utilise possibilities concerning livestock production and the use of local feed-stuffs;
· Co-operate with others of various disciplines in planning, designing and implementing projects in the field of animal feed production;
· Transfer relevant knowledge, skills and technology concepts to small and intermediate livestock farmers and ditto animal feed producing units;
· More efficiently tackle problems regarding the optimum utilisation of locally available feed-stuffs, which are unsuitable for human consumption.
Content of training/course
Compulsory Modules:
· Nutritional aspects: general and applied nutrition; ration formulation for different species; quality of feed-stuffs; utilisation of waste and by-products; preparation of compound feeds; storage; quality control and food safety.
· Technical aspects: feed-mill operation; receipt of ingredients; transport systems; storage; cleaning; drying; blending; grinding; mixing; weighing; delivery systems; maintenance; safety; plant design; technical drawings and diagrams.
· Organisational aspects: feed production objectives; cost-price calculation; budgeting; labour management; production planning and recording; (co-operative) business organisations and their financial reports.
· Applied management in the PTC+ feed mill.
· Compilation of a pilot project proposal.
Methods:
‘Learning by Doing'
· Theory classes;
· Practicals and demonstrations in the PTC+ feed-mill;
· Applied Management in the feed-mill including writing reports;
· Individual design of a pilot project proposal which can be implemented at home;
· Technical field trips.
The final exam
Examination methods:
· Written tests;
· Assessment of practical work in the PTC+ feed mill;
· Presentations;
· Assessment of reports.
Preliminary training required
· A Diploma and/or B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Science with a major in Animal Production, or equivalent qualification from a recognised institute;
· At least three years experience in animal husbandry or closely related subjects and relevant and demonstrable experience in the field of animal nutrition and animal feed production;
· Competence in the English language;
· Willingness to perform manual work during the course and particularly in the PTC+ feed-mill;
· Age preferably between 25 and 45 years.
The International Diploma Animal Feed is meant for a special group of applicants who have already an educational level of either the International Diploma Pig Husbandry or International Diploma Poultry Husbandry or their equivalent and who are fully involved in animal feed production.
Duration of study, minimum number of participants and prices
Fees: € 9,200.00
Course fee is including full board and lodging and excluding international travel expenses and out of pocket expenses.
