Nursery Production Of Quality Seedlings

Introduction

The successful and profitable production of seedlings requires careful management. This course will provide participants with the knowledge to make the right decisions regarding all major aspects of growing and handling seedlings.

Owners and managers of horticultural companies who produce, or wish to start producing, seedlings.

· The ability to plan and organise off-season production of quality seedlings;

· Overall insight into the possibilities for creating beneficial germination conditions for seeds under various climatic conditions;

· Insights into the technical devices/equipment available for modern seedling production;

· Experience in matching crop-specific demands with climate control and water management;

· Upgrading the participants managerial skills in all major aspects related to the production of quality seedlings.

Content of training/course

Crop physiology focused on various seeds and the specific requirements/demands with regard to:

· Controlling climatic conditions (heating, cooling/shading);

· Irrigation and fertigation technology;

· Mixing of substrates and potting soil;

· Crop protection (integrated pest management);

· Production planning and logistics.

Methods:
Practical training sessions in the technical well-equipped PTC+ greenhouses, demonstrations, lectures, gaining experience by working with equipment in a practical situation and excursions to a seed company and commercial seedling producer in the Netherlands.

Duration of study, minimum number of participants and prices

Five days, on request.

The total course fee is € 1,100 excluding board and lodging.

Board and lodging can be arranged on request at the PTC+ guesthouses or a hotel.
