Module Applied Poultry Management
Introduction
In order to train or advise students and farmers on poultry husbandry one should have a good understanding of the primary production process.
In this module the emphasis is put on the animal and how to deal with it in such a way that a good production is obtained. The focus is on medium-scale, semi-commercial farms with low technology input.
For whom it is intended
Extension officers, teachers and instructors in
animal production and managers in the field of
poultry husbandry.
Your final destination
As a result of the training the participant is
able to:
• Execute daily, weekly and periodical care for a
poultry unit leading to an acceptable result;
• Explain how the different ‘production factors’
independently and in combination with each
other affect production quantity and quality;
• Formulate an advice leading to a more efficient
production;
• Accept that motivation and a positive attitude
is necessary to achieve good results;
• Judge the husbandry systems at PTC+ for applicability
at one’s own working place.
Content of training/course
Contents
This module contains of three submodules: layers
(6 weeks = 270 hours study load); broilers, ducks
& turkeys (3 weeks= 135 hours study load) and
rearing pullets (3 weeks = 135 hours study load).
The topics are daily management, feeding, housing,
monitoring of production, collecting and
assessing data.
Methods:
• Applied management;
• Practical lessons;
• Supportive theory lessons;
• Assignments (among which Applied Management
Report).
Preliminary training required
• A Diploma and/or B.Sc. degree in Agricultural
Science with a major in Animal Production, or
equivalent qualification from a recognised
institute;
• At least three years experience in poultry husbandry;
• Competence in the English language;
• Willingness to perform manual work during
the course and particularly during applied
management;
• Age preferably between 25 and 45 years.

Fees: € 9,200.00
Course fee is including full board and lodging and
excluding international travel expenses and out
of pocket expenses.
