Module Poultry Production Technology

Introduction

Technology and good management is what made commercial poultry farms in Europe and U.S.A. large and efficient. Also in developing countries commercial poultry farms will make more and more use of applicable technology. So for teachers, extension workers and others working in the field of poultry husbandry it is important to have knowledge about technology available for poultry production.

For whom it is intended

Managers in the field of poultry production and
for extension officers, teachers and instructors on
poultry production.

Your final destination

As a result of the training the participant is
able to:
• Make a relevant choice of applicable technology
based on technical, economical and social
aspects;
• Design a poultry house and give advice on
building and construction and equipment;
• Make use of modern technology in the
management of a poultry unit;
• Optimise feeding strategies and feed efficiency,
and increase the nutrient utilisation;
• Work with equipment for grading, handling
and quality control for eggs and egg products.

• Management of large scale farms;
• Modern feeding programmes;
• Design of poultry houses;
• Technical drawing;
• Modern equipment for poultry houses, like
cage systems, automatic feeders, fans, cooling
equipment, equipment for automatic climate
control;
• Modern equipment for quality control of eggs;
• Egg quality technology;
• Poultry housing technology;
• Poultry nutrition technology;
• Economics.

• Practical lessons;
• Theory lessons;
• Assignments;
• Group exercises;
• Excursions.

Preliminary training required

• A Diploma and/or B.Sc. degree in Agricultural
Science with a major in Animal Production, or
equivalent qualification from a recognised
institute;
• At least three years experience in poultry husbandry
or closely related subjects;
• Competence in the English language;
• Willingness to perform manual work during the
course and particularly during applied management;
• Age preferably between 25 and 45 years.
