Module Pig Production Technology
Introduction
Producing pigs for slaughter with modern (mechanised) systems is actually optimising production and quality in integrated enterprises and commercial farms. Successful Introduction and use of technology however requires a balanced approach and understanding. This includes
estimation and reduction of risks, analysing of results, evaluations, planning and optimisation of technology used.
For whom it is intended
Managers in the field of pig production, for
extension officers, teachers and instructors on
pig production.
Your final destination
As a result of the training the participant is
able to:
• Make a relevant choice of applicable technology;
• Adjust and control the micro-climate using
thermo-regulation and ventilation;
• Make an integration planning based on production
capacity;
• Advise on technical results and on how to
optimise them, acting as pig technician.
Content of training/course
Housing systems technology, technical drawing
and design;
• Computerised farm analysis and product quality;
• Production planning and Integration;
• A one-week Dutch pig-farm exposure.
Methods:
• Class lectures and practical lessons;
• Case study and problem based learning;
• Group discussions and presentation;
• Demonstrations;
• Excursions, if applicable;
• Farm work.
Preliminary training required
• A Diploma and/or B.Sc. degree in Agricultural
Science with a major in Animal Production, or
equivalent qualification from a recognised
institute;
• At least three years experience in pig husbandry
or closely related subjects;
• Competence in the English language;
• Willingness to perform manual work during the
course;
• Age preferably between 25 and 45 years.
