From a Competence Profile to a Competence Based Training Programme

Introduction

Efficient and effective training programs for professionals are based on a thorough analysis of competences required by successful professionals and competences a group of trainees already possess. The gap between existing and required competences determines the content and training and assessment methodologies o of the training program

For whom it is intended

Trainers and lecturers of vocational training institutes, extension officers responsible for developing and implementing training programs, professionals who need/want to know how to design and implement an effective and efficient training program

Your final destination

As a result of the training the participant is able to:
• Assess existing curricula on competence based learning (CBL) principles
• Transfer existing 'traditional' curricula into CBL-based curricula
• Develop and implement lesson plans according to CBL-principles

Upon completion participants will receive a Certificate of Competence

Content of training/course

Contents:
• Theoretical aspects: theory of competence based learning principles
• Practical aspects: assessment of existing of curricula on CBL-principles, design of new curricula in accordance to CBL-principles, introduction to agricultural field of interest and functioning of related practical training centers
• Compilation of a CBL based curriculum

Courses taught in the home situation are used as cases. PTC+ trainers and participant work together in groups. First the CBL-level of a course taught by one of the participants is assessed. Is it already CBL-based, do you want to upgrade it? How, and to which level? The participant makes an action plan, which he executes during the course (partly). In a small group he determines competences required by a successful professional. Together with his colleagues he designs assessments to test the trainee has attained the required competences. Based on the competences and the assessments he develops a curriculum based on CBL-principles, i.e. integrated assignments, supporting lessons and coaching. CBL-based training programs emphasize development of knowledge, skills and attitude.
The training program at PTC+ in itself is a CBL-course with a lot of practical work, group work, interaction between participants and between participants and trainers. During the course participants will also design and present a short practical training program using PTC+ facilities. The 3-weeks course at PTC+ encourages the participants to introduce the newly developed course in their home situation. On request and at an additional fee PTC+ may continue to assist the participant after he has left via e-mail (distant learning) or on the job.
